Donny, I do agree with you absolutely about God’s protection. When I write things, I am trying to make a point. I’m not trying to cover all bases and make sure everything I say is fair and balanced. And it’s good that you caught that so I can be clear. In my post on prayer, I should have been clearer that the point I was trying to get across is that I believe that one of the things Jesus accomplished on the cross was to give dominion over the earth back to man who lost it when Adam sinned and handed over dominion to Satan. This is why Andrew Wommack was able to raise his son from the dead. This is why we can pray with authority – because we now have the authority over the works of the devil because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross.
I can give you scores of examples in my life when God worked behind the scenes to bring about results that I was not praying for because I didn’t even know what was about to happen.
An example of this was about 18 months ago. My boss hired a big lawyer in town who we later learned was completely inaccessible. Every time we tried to call this lawyer, his assistant would say, “I’ll give him the message,” and we never heard back from him. One day I got off the phone with her and was totally exasperated. Lo and behold, the lawyer shows up in my office. I came out from behind my desk, looked him right in the eye, put my hands on both his shoulders and said, “You have GOT to get an assistant who makes you more accessible. I don’t want to be told, ‘I’ll give him the message.’ I want to hear, “I’ll find out and you’ll have your answer in two hours.’”
Two weeks later, my boss was the victim of an internal coup and he and I got fired. And this lawyer hired me immediately to be his assistant and that’s who I work for today. He called me at home and said, “Kathy, do you remember what you told me I needed? I need you to come work for me and do everything you told me.”
I believe with all my heart this was God looking out for me. There it was, right after September 11th, with everyone losing their jobs all over the place, and I went from a really good job to one that was perfect for me and paid far more than I expected. I certainly wasn’t praying for it. My job with the president of the old company was rock solid safe and secure. But God knew the future and was watching out for me. I know we can all tell dozens of stories of experiences like that, where God was protecting us and watching out for us.
The purpose of my post on prayer was not to say that God only cares for us when we pray. It was to state that because of what Jesus did on the cross, we have much more power over evil than we think we have.
