It strikes me as rather hypocritical that after all these years he is only now attempting to make any sort of amends or communication with you. Has he ever apologised for kidnapping your kids, has he ever tried to keep up any communication? Now that you're speaking out and telling the story he is there to justify himself or try to make himself look good.
Wouldn't it be nice if for once one of the Family people who committed some awful abuses of power and crimes against others would just humbly apologise and say, 'I really screwed up and I did the wrong thing. I know you'll probably never forgive me but I truly and sorry...' and not adding in any of 'But it was for the Lord's work...'
Of course, you don't know if you can really believe them cause (and this is from first hand experience) you are really trained in how to talk to outsiders, esp. relatives, esp. 'backslidden' ones, and esp. potential enemies. I was trained on how to do it with my own mother, how to give a seemingly false pretense of love, while downtalking her with my leaders, or allowing them to convince me she was a worldly materialistic backslider with whom I should avoid contact, but of course we don't want to make an enemy of her so we'll let you write nice short 'how's the weather' letters...
Sorry Juniper, but this just makes me mad. That group is surely arrogant, with a pretense of humility. At least I'm arrogant and am honest about it :)
