I'm not downplaying the need for justice in THIS life, and like you, I hope the SGAs in particular hold Family leadership accountable for the horrendous crimes committed. As I mentioned to Jewlz elsewhere, the justice system in this life is pretty screwed up. For her ex to get a bit of community service for kidnapping is a total joke. The Family has traditionally gotten off with a slap on the wrist because they know how to do the song and dance for officials and put on the happy missionary face and lie through their teeth. So if man's justice systems in this life is all we have, and there's no retribution for a life of lies, oppression and crimes, then truly the good and the victims are screwed and the oppressors dance all the way to the bank.
I hope your sister gets some justice and I agree that if I only hoped for retribution in the next life and was content to just la-di-dah "forgive and forget" in this life, and "let's just let the Lord sort it all out in the next life" that that would be delusional. Unfortunately there are a number of exers who are like that. They conveniently want to forgive Berg (who they really don't think was guilty of a hell of a lot anyway) and basically what they're saying is "Let the whole thing slide. "Grandpa made a few mistakes but really he was trying to serve God."
That is pure hogwash and trash as far as I am concerned. Berg and his cohorts were literally guilty of crimes against humanity. There are serious laws against all kinds of things they have done and continue to do. The kind of coverup they are involved in would draw howls of worldwide protest if for example, they were a Swiss bank shredding Nazi banking documents. So I hope they end up having to face justice in this life.
I don't necessarily hold out a lot of hope that that will happen, however. We saw how the Australian court case went: they got off on a technicality because the particular police chief wasn't present at the raids. Other than that they had them ... but they got off.
If that's the best we can hope for then that's pretty depressing. I hold out hope for justice and retribution in the next life and don't see that as delusional. AND if you can get justice in this life, go for it. If your sister can bring her ex into line and make him beg for forgiveness, more power to her.
