No one could have been as sincere a Christian as my wife was when she joined the Family in '72. She joined a community that devoted everything to personal witnessing, she had been going from church to church, and from one Christian group to another searching for a way to be an active witnessing Christian. When found the COG she didn't hesitate to join them. No one deceived her or hid anything from her at the time. In those days, you even heard about Moses David almost immediately too.
Personally, being as screwed up as I was on drugs, it did me loads of good to learn to witness to other freaks about how Jesus and the Bible could help them not to want drugs anymore too. And some of them received Jesus' help and got off drugs, they didn't all join the Family either, some joined church groups.
My faith and my activities, especially in those early years in the Family were "Christian".
