Very cool quotes by Clement of Alexandria, George. Good to see that at least ONE early church leader believed that the events of Mat. 24 were fulfilled in AD 70. That's really helpful. Thanks! And seeing as how he lived at almost the exact same time as Irenaeus, it proves the point that the earch church Fathers held very divergent views on the interpretation of prophecy.
Have you read the quotes I cited in "Against Heresies" by the way? Do you need a link? Those quotes prove unmistakably that some leading early Christians held very strong and well-studied Futurist endtime prophecy views.
And what do you think of the quotes from the Didache, probably the earliest of all non-Biblical writings we have, which gives a clear Furturist and post-Tribulational view? What is the Preterist response to the Didache?
As I said, great quotes by Clement of Alexandria, but I did find that the quotes by Clement of Rome and Athanasius (who is one of my all-time favorite early Christians, by the way) were quite vague and I can't see that they prove any point.
Anyways, very interested to hear your thoughts on the Didache and Irenaeus.
