In the Family I know there were occasions where I would have doubts. Even though I was a real fanatatic, I would still get the occasional doubt. I like to think of this as God's voice trying to break through my hard heart and dertermination. The people that tried to tell us and warn us that we decieved. But the thing is God isn't a monster even if bad things happen because of our own choices, he still tries to get through. If we are chosen from the foundation of the world as it says, then it has to conincide with out own personal choice as well. As with the Children of Israel, they were perserved but was not saved until they were truly desperate. But not from God punishing them, but because of the choice they had made to move there, and the choice the Pharoahs had made to make them slaves.

God is there, but we have the personal responsiblity to choose to follow truly.
