I'd say definitely save up money for the plane tickets home, but not the car. Sorry, they could be asked to "forsake" the car to the work there while they're scooted on to another country. Would you knowingly donate a car to Family members you know nothing about, and who have probably coerced your daughter into giving it to them?
But plane ticket money, go for it. Birthday presents, Christmas gifts, loving letters, I totally agree. All I got for years was no cash but continual letters from my mother, and it helped me know in the day I wanted to leave that I had a safe landing place.
