I know everyone must be sick of this, but I feel(oops here I go feeling now!) that there might be something to this.
Okay, I know a while back that there was a bit of hype about the CIA maybe having some input into the Family. Whether or not I believe that, is another story, but it did get me thinking. Just about the power to control people?
In Huxleys "Brave New World" he came up with a scenario where goverment control happened because of sex and drugs. It kept people stupified and supposedly happy.
Now take a bunch of crazy young people. Give them a purpose at a time in their lives when they have none.
But how to keep them under control? Freethinker brought up how in the early days you couldn't even go toliet without someone there. (they were still doing this in 19974, but I think it faded out that year, which is about the time flirty fishes was coming out) That we were an army was drilled into our minds, that our total obedience to leadership was what made us different to any other. The chosen endtime army.
So you have these people who are joining, who are dedicated, but probably not totally dedicated to berg. Although he had exerted some control on many top leaders, arranging their marriages etc, the vast majority joining were not doing so because of any knowledge of him.
So how could he infiltrate and lift up the whole David idea? He had to keep the interest up, to keep us radical and different from other groups. Why not appeal to what young men and a lot of women were interested in. SEX.
He started with letters like the "all things tree" slowly conditioning us with the idea that there were no limits to what you can do if you were totally free in the spirit.
He came out with Revolutionary Sex. This really set the captives free. Now there was no need for marriage, no need to take care of a partner and learn to be an indepedent unit. (Something Berg was terrified of and never stopped trying to tear down married couples)
As it was most who had joined had mixed ideas about sex. Even when I joined the letter Flirty Fishes had come out, but the leader had said that it really did not liberate us to practice sex that it was all just a spiritual illustration.
Berg appealed to our pride(and some of our lusts). Weren't we stronger then the early church, didn't we know more then those self righteous churchies.
But think about it, is it really a freedom to masturbate? Isn't it more an experience that is very much about your own satisfaction?
The trouble with this is that it doesn't lead you to others, but is only self satisifying. Paul told us that instead of going nuts(as Charlie puts it) we should marry. Do you think he didn't know about masturbation? I think the beauty of marriage is that of course you don't have to burn, sex becomes more then just to bodies copulating.
It becomes an illustration of what Jesus is to his Church. Paul wasn't into control.
Berg from this foundation of liberating us to masturbate branched into "Law of Love", "One Wife"
That tried to make it sound feasible that if you truly loved God that you would lay down your bodies for someone, anyone, who needed it.
He challanged 'do you have enough love'.
Appealing to our pride once more.
Twisting scriptures to tell us they were only spiritual, they didn't mean us, adultry didn't mean what it says either. Anything that went wrong publicly was always put down to 'not enough love'. Or was done for selfish motives.
Which was a total lie.
But anyway, pride is a terrible thing. In the family we became addicted to humiliation, and the terrible thing was we lost the abilty to have moral distinctions.
Anyway, just something to think about if you are so inclined.
