Early Church & the Latter Church

Do you remember in an old ML, could be "One Wife", where Berg proclaimed that it was God's last chance to have a "Latter Church", a church that lived in full grace and freedom! He of course said it was the COG/Family. we were being given this freedom, but we weren't supposed to use it for the flesh and lust. He said it was being entrusted to us by God, blah, blah.
Maria said in the "Conviction vs. Compromise" series that she had to really pray and ask the Lord if we should even have the sexual part of the Law of Love. She said it just caused so many problems. Sad to say, she said that it would still remain as a foundation of Family life.
Anyway, what do you think, I personally think that God was trying to show the "Early Church" and us in the "Latter Church" that we JUST CAN'T BE TRUSTED WITH FULL GRACE AND FREEDOM! The Early Church turned into a big cult... The Holy Roman Empire and the "Latter Church" is chock full of weird cults proclaiming some kind of freedom and still going the way of all flesh.
I think that God is just trying to show us humans, that we need His guidance more than ever and we just can't be trusted to go so far astray. It should humble us and it should give us a healthy fear and respect of God to not get so far astray. We can't be trusted with "leaders" and power and to have a large "following".
Hmmm.. what do you think?
