They always do this - whenever the heat gets too hot and they start losing numbers/money, they turn to exmembers - for two reasons:
1 - they figure exmembers are shoe-in and they can always get to them tithe through guilt and that will beef up their number charade and garner more income. Heck, if they are working, all the better - more money for them through their tithes.
2 - it's a way to stifle the voices that are now speaking up and they can't stand to hear the truth, plus it puts a crimp in their fund raising.
It all comes down to money.
