Thanks for your thoughtful consideration of my posting.

I'm sure some ex-fam member toes have been stepped on by this thread. I'm not going to blame victims though. Perhaps some of us took advantage of positions of leadership in the fam, but they have left the cult and have denounced it. It's between them and God as far as their own actions in the fam. As long as it's been repented of, they are blameless in the eyes of the Lord.

About slavery: Even Jefferson, who was a slave owner, knew in his heart that it was wrong. He once compared slavery to a wolf that a man has grabbed by the ears. He cannot prudently continue to hold it, but he cannot safely release it either, lest it tear him apart. That's quite an interesting visual image, isn't it?

No, the founders of the U.S.A. were far from perfect, but God still used them to build a nation that despite its faults has been a light and protector for the oppressed people of the world.
