Last night I saw the DiCapprio movie "The Beach". He gets a map of paradise island where only a select few can live. Everyone is looking for a utopia, so he goes with two friends. There's a lady in charge of this community and everyone can see that this life is better than the "system". The lady in charge is a real control freak and keeps the members under fear of someone attacking their paradise. It was educational for me and reminds me of YKW! Even though it was paradise, whenever there was a problem, they just tried to cover it up or ignore it. Cults attract people for different reasons, but it seems the leaders take advantage of their recruits through fear tactics of some sort... as well as "revelations" about the outside world. Since sinful humans just can't take power so well without it going to their head, it seems that God won't bless these groups. The idea sounds so appealing, but we are just not ready for it... what do you think? DiCapprio was a better person for having gone there, but he was an even better person for having left! He was more liberated after he left!!
Do you remember how the Family has a "rated" movie list and we are supposed to choose our movies only from that list? Remember how Berg wrote a letter about "Apocolpse Now" and said it had an anti-cult message and that the enemy was attacking the Family? I just saw that movie again recently and you know... that strange guy sure looks like Berg! I think Berg didn't want us to ever think it was him, so he gave his own interpretation for it.
