Yeah, it did cross my mind that it was a bit of sarcasm. But, I still wouldn't put it pas TF to have someone spike his drink, if you know what I mean. Apparently, they were pretty concerned about his "coming out" about them and the whole sexual issue. I just wouldn't say it's not possible. Some of those upper echelons are pretty darn ruthless.
