an old wives tale - something someone drummed up to get a point across. Berg was far from being an uneducated hill billy. Redneck is also a term being very missused these days. That comes from the working class of people. It came from hard working guys working out in the heat -- they would have a red neck from the sun. I doubt Berg ever worked hard in his life and he prided himself in being well educated.
Then you have stuffed shirts. These are the people who never have to lift anything heavier than their pencil and sit around in their suits and ties and make decisions for the rest of us. There's something to dislike in just about anybody or any class of people.
