Well, as far as why Christ would go without resistance to be crucified, I think that's perfectly understandable. He was submitting himself to God the Father's will. Why he would advise his disciples to buy swords seems obvious to me. What other purpose would they have for swords other than self defense...harcesting wheat? I don't see a big contradiction here.
I have no knowledge of any disciples using swords to resist persecution.
I'm not claiming to have all the answers to all Biblical misteries, brother. There are plenty of things that probably won't be sorted out until we are on the other side of eternity. Like that verse says, we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face.
