personally, i don't believe there is a "one size fits all" experience, explanation, or road to recovery. it seems to me we each can say what we prsonally have come to understand about our experience, and its psychological and/or spiritual dimension. i certainly found lifton's thoughts and other insights into the psychological aspects to the cult life very very helpful. but spiritual insights were essential to my recovery and scripture played a major role.(tho to be sure, i have come to approach it in a very different way..)
i personally found some of m.scott peck's stuff, including "road less travelled" and "further along the road.." helpful in seeing the interplay of human psychology and the spiritual dimension of mankind helpful.
but still, the good news of grace is really the only thing that speaks into my needy life, before, during, and after. but that's me. who knows what path erika will find healing?
