missing the point

alan, it seems to me as a reader that it is possible that you may be missing a point here. reading the board over the past months it does seem that you may be a little hair trigger on some issues. if people are coming out of a highly abusive experience in a bible based cult, does it seem surprising that the bible itself is called into question? if an incredibly closed system of thought has proven bankrupt, is it unreasonable for people, who recognize the spiritual dimension in life, might be drawn to explore more open systems?

there may or may not be issues concerning the logic of a pluralistic approach to truth claims, but it seems right that the intelligence of those who have sifted thru one system of error should be respected, and discussion would be more helpful in an atmosphere of respect. i don't think christians need to be so defensive about the faith. God, it would seem, can take care of himself. and we are all struggling in limited light.

i don't think your interpretation of the christian perspective should be squashed, but it might find more of a hearing if profferred in a more socratic, or even christlike fashion. imo.
