Hi LisaQ you sound like a very caring woman and I hope for the best for the both of you. You're doing the right thing by seeking to understand your fiance's past for it will continually surface in the present and in the future especially if he doesn't get help soon. From what you've shared it appears that he and his family are still very much "in" that cultic mindset even though they're physically out. I was. I left 8 years ago but was operating as if I was still "in". I only realized it when I started seeing a therapist. You're gonna have to hold his hand thru this as I think you will and be very supportive of him and patient with him. But he has to realize that he needs help.
