That we can just pick out the parts that the "Spirit of Christ" moves us to choose and then we will be so much more enlightened?
I really don't buy into that. I did that once already.
I also agree that fornication was happening in the early church. But it was fought against and Jesus himself in Revelations said it was absolutely forbidden.(that's if you can accept that Revelations is one of the inspired bits) Just because it was happening does not mean it was a pleasing to God.
