By the end of my time in the Family, Berg was pretty discounting Paul and even condemning him as a weak character.
The main point I think Allan is making is that both Eva and Berg feel Paul should be discounted in order that the 'spirit of Christ' can move you.
This is if I'm not mistaken what Eva said, and it's certainy what Berg preached as well.
