That reminds me of a song by Michael W. Smith called "Cross of Gold." Part of the lyrics say:
"Tell me why do you wear your cross of Gold?
Is it just a fashion statement,
or does it live inside your soul?"
Maybe the world has become so numb and jaded, that it needs to be jolted awake by the bloody reality of what Christ endured for our sakes.
