I don't read it as 'be ye perfect' right this second, but more as a goal to strive for in your Christian life.

God the Father is perfect Jesus said, and we should be like him. Why not? Wouldn't He be the best role model? The one who had the most love? It says that God judges the heart, isn't that what perfection is all about?

Why should we be satisfied with immaturity? Isn't life about change and changing? If someone is immature, certainly don't condemn the person, but if I met that person ten years later and they hadn't changed at all, I would wonder what is wrong or feel pity.
