The traditional assumption/interpretation is, other people want to be treated just like you want to be treated. I don't agree with it. I don't assume the things I want others to do to me (how I want to be treated) necessarily agrees with what others want done to them (how others want to be treated). If you are a woman and I am a man we already want to be treated very differently. I believe the Golden Rule is more along the lines of, find out what the other person wants from you, and treat them the way they want to be treated. I guess you will have a problem with my criticism of the traditional interpretation/application then.
