No offense taken. You asked some valid questions, and I'll try to address them.
My neph is going with a group that will not be on a Christian sight-seeing tour. They will be going into some remote areas of China, and most importantly, they will be delivering Chineese Bibles. For reasons I can't get into here, this is the only way they can get Bibles into China and get them into the hands of real pastors, (not the state-controlled churches, where many portions of the Bible are forbidden).
This group travels on a shoestring budget, unlike the typical Christian tour groups, and many of the staff are fluent in Mandarin Chineese, so they can engage in fellowship and one-on-one teaching and ministry with the Chinese.
