Especially after years of planting a fake smile across my face pretending to be happy for Jesus when I was really quite miserable for so much of the time. Every high had many more lows to it.
I think the lack of the sort of spirituality you are seeking might just be because many of us are survivors of a cult and that tends to cause loss of faith or damaged faith. I don't see it as "bad" that people take whatever time they need to find their own path. And that varies in the exer community.
