For Ruth Montgomery, it had a very specific meaning, but I doubt if most people are even aware of the connection. In the popular mind, it's a generic term that covers everything from eastern meditation to fascination with the paranormal and the extra-terrestrial. But this is also very much in line with what Ruth Montgomery taught. According to her, there are no evil or fallen spiritual beings; they're all here to benefit us, if we would only try to understand their "higher motivations" and let them in. So the "walk-ins" appeal to us through all sorts of mental and spiritual means.
