Like Carol, I too was puzzled by the use of that ambiguous term and think it says a lot more about the writer than her.
I am on a variety of email lists and recently an email crossed my desk with the following quote, attributed to musician Lynn Lavner, attached to the signature: "The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision!"
