It is my personal opinion that prayer is in actuality a security blanket. It doesn't always work, but it is there to grab onto when you need help or encouragement. It gives you a mental and physical boost to have this belief that you can communicate with a 'higher being' and that being will perhaps take the time to hear and answer or help you.
But, it doesn't always work. According to the simple words of the bible, 'ask and it shall be given you...', it doesn't prove true. How many prayers have I made that just weren't answered with no explanation as to why, leaving me in the dark as to the 'all things work together for good' reasons as to why god didn't come through.
If I live my life excusing every instance of non-answered prayers, then I feel as if I live my life excusing God for not being there every time I need Him. I wouldn't mind if He didn't answer some prayers, if it were clearer as to why not. But it is so unclear that it gets too frustrating and it takes a lot of stress out of my life to live without prayer and god's help.
