Language is limiting and because of that we move from the concrete to the abstract as a conversation progresses. I suspect the idea of God is very similar among those who believe in God but our ways to explaining it is not that advanced.
I sometimes envision God as a form walking by me, other times as an aural envelope, other times as a channel or pathway. In one of my courses of physics I came upon the idea of pure energy with a Will, sort of weaving in the world of sub atomic particles - this kind of explains the Big Bang too.
Maybe miracles are not more than cause and effect whose cause its unknown to us. This may be a controversial interpretation but Eph 2:10 says that God has ordained good works that we should walk in them.
Also, I am not sure that it works for Christians only but for everybody with a clean heart. I think there are rules for prayer to be answered and we just don't know or understand those rules very well.
