Isn't it a state of mind? You can put a group of people together with a variety of levels of earning power, from low, medium to high. Low level earnings are perhaps renting an apt and driving 5 year old car, medium level may have an okay house in an okay neighborhood, and they're driving a new model Focus. High levels may have the house with the swimming pool, a Mercedes and a 4 wheel drive SUV in the garage. Depending on the individual, everyone in the room will have similar money anxieties, or lack of anxiety about their financial situation. Just having a high earning level doesn't mean there are no longer any anxieties. Feeling comfortable financially can be done even when you earning little. In fact, I think the high earners who have that sense of financial comfort, also had it when they didn't earn so much.
