Dear Kinda Gentler...it might not come as a surprise to you, but not all, that you perceive as Christians nor all those that call themselves that way are Christians.

Paul & James insisted in their epistles, that you have to also show your love/faith by tangible works of kindness.

The "theological" pretty sound view is though, that none of the good works we are able to do, can compare with the work of God/&Jesus, redeeming us through our simply acknowleding our shortcomings, sins & failures ...being sorry for them (the communist isn't perfect either, isn't it?) & accepting Jesus as our Saviour...

otherwise one is simply on the road of man's own righteousness...which can be pretty good at times

but I noticed lately, that the social welfare state in Germany (Sweden & elsewhere) can't be upheld anymore in it's way of before...it became too expensive...so charity of man is also a matter of money...&/or sacrifice & like you pointed out,
when people become "too filthy", who likes to deal with them?.. wonderful, that you cared for that person & others!!!!!!
