Wow, this is an interesting case of serendipity.

After remembering that time I thought I had lost my son, I called him up to chat yesterday--just to touch base and let him know I love him. He's 29, married, and works about 60 hours a week as an engineer. He's a very busy guy--too busy, imo, but I don't tell him how he should live. Sometimes I try to get him to slow down and smell the flowers--like calling him up just to talk about the weather. But the chat was brief yesterday because he was still at work.

He called me back this morning, and we got some time to chat about football and weddings and fixing up a family cabin on the lake. But this conversation was interrupted by an emergency phone call from engineering staff at the company's plant in Mexico. An hour later, we reconnected in a brief conversation of closure.

This is all by cell phone, of course. At our final conversation, my son (Aaron) tells me he's about to fly up to Cleveland with his father-in-law, Rick, a pilot who owns a small aircraft. My heart sank. I know Rick is an experienced pilot, but God have mercy, those small aircraft can be really dangerous. I know Aaron has flown with Rick many times, but I wish I didn't know about it. Ignorance IS bliss.

Something I keep trying to impress on this busy, high-flying, ambitious son of mine is that we really don't have the rest of our lives to do this or that, we only have today.

Yeah, I did have a conversation with my Higher Power about this. I'll be lifting it up and letting go until I hear my son is safely back home.
