Do you really think they (the radical islamic jihadists) are intent on making us accept their ways, or are they really trying to tell us (the most powerful Christian empire ever in existence) to get out of their face/space/land/backyard Mecca, for God's sake.
I'm not meaning to start an political debate, but there are basically two views on why we're under attack my militant Islam. I pray out of a generous interpretation of what's going on: The Islamic jihadists are out to get us because we've done something MIGHTY powerful to offend them. Are we a sinful nation?
Asking myself this question doesn't mean I don't love my country. I pray every day for peace and justice in my world. I love my country passionately. I'm just not afraid to examine and confess where we, as a nation, have fallen short of the Kingdom of God.
When everyone else in TF took off for Europe in the early 70s, I stayed behind in the Blueridge Mountains because I believed in the vision of what America could be--a New Jerusalem, a shining city on a hill for all the world to see. I have been praying for my homeland for a very long time now. We have been assaulted, and I must ask the People of God why this evil has come to us. Have we sinned in some way? This is what I know to be the prophet's Word.
I will never believe that I am completely innocent of all sin, and that my salvation in Christ means I have been absolved from looking at the ways in which I partake in the sins of my people, the American nation.
I do not wish to debate theology. I only want to share my prayers and thoughts with you. I am Orizon: This means "word of prayer" in the Latin tradition of Christian prayer.
