I had never seen it that way but it makes so much sense. It is an extension of the doctrine of: "Why explained twice to somebody when others have not heard it even once." Since they feel like they don't have "their blood on their hands" they can be themselves and treat them either with content or with acceptance. I think that will depend on thei own individual personality mix with what potential(s) they see in the relationship.
What I have observed as a norm is the level of dettachment in Family members. Of course, this is not surprising given the enforced environment but to me is what explains a lot of their strange ways.
