I'm glad that the story of the dead Jew makes your life meaningful but I'd rephrase part of your post and say 'When I am weak then I am strong'. It is by facing our fears and weaknesses that we find the strength we never knew we had (without needing a figment of our imaginations to prop us up.) Reality is a huge high if you have the guts.
