I guess your points beg a question IMO.
Suppose that souls are immortal and there is an afterlife. If there is not some place like hell or a holding tank for the dangerous killers what are your suggestions regarding Hitler et al ? My family was seriously worked over by WW11. To me war and "evil" are real. As a child raised in a very abusive enviroment I have seen the face of evil and it is still "out there"; in spades, daggers and shovels.
I don't really disagree with you as the excessive violence, egotism and plain hard-assed behaviour of a significant number of "Christians" over many generations is disturbing in the least. Even though I believe in Jesus and his example I figure they would have racked me up for sure in the days of inquisition.
No doubt these are hard issues to deal with and I struggle with them too.
