I like that evaluation of cults and the investment factor. It's one way of explaining why people stay in cults like the Fam. It certainly is true in our case, and we stayed really long. And at the same time central office is putting out missives that say this year is the year the venture's going to hit the jackpot, all those dreams are going to be fulfilled, blah blah blah. And the empty promises continue year in and year out. Berg was, and Maria and Peter are complete experts at doing that. In our case we vainly hoped that this was the year we were going to finally find ourselves in that elusive "mission field" where we'd be able to spend the rest of our lives in a long term fruitful ministry helping countless needy people, families and children have a better lives and heaven too as a members of our worthy "Christian" fellowship, outreach and mission. As Fam members you're convinced that you have the best Christianity has to offer, they still think that way. But because the reality is that the Family is a quirky cult that follows false prophets and doctrines there is no way that anyone in the Family can ever hope to have a long term, genuine, missionary endeavor.

Your right, it is possible to get started all over again, as we did, in our 50's, it's not always easy, but it hasn't been the hell on Earth Berg always said it would be. Best of all I've gained self esteem and I enjoy life, an eventful post Family journey and experience has given this to me.
