I'm in Canada. Yes, there are plenty of places in my city that teach a wide variety of dance styles. Salsa and other latin styles are very popular right now, but there are also places that teach swing and ballroom and I even saw one advertisement for classes on dancing to hip-hop. I've shied away from those so far, for various reasons, though a friend and I have considered taking lessons together. Once my body allows me to get back to dancing maybe I should reconsider lessons, which would probably give me more confidence. I generally feel kind of clutsy on the dance floor, thus my reference to Elaine's chicken-dance style on Seinfeld, but with a little help I know that I have the necessary sense of rhythm and timing. And I certainly have experienced many times the therapeutic, liberating effect of dancing.
