I was picked up at a dental free clinic in Los Angeles, 1971 by a stunningly handsome man, calling himself Nick. He took me back to his home - turned out to be Fred Jordan's hotel in Watts - where I was worked over emotionally for 48 consecutive hours by Bobby - the drill sergant a couple rungs below David Berg. They convinced me that I was unworthy of anything (like I said, they preyed on the vulnerable) and I ended up staying for about 18 months in which time I sang in the choir on Fred Jordan's Sunday morning TV show, moved to Mingus, TX to live on Fred Jordan's "ranch" - more like a prison camp than a ranch, got married to a man who is still a member, living in Taiwan and escaped when I realized that I was pregnant. My daughter was adopted by people who were convinced they would go to jail if they gave my husband and the COG custody. I am thankful daily for their naivete.
It took my daughter and I a long time to connect but we're both fine and she didn't suffer what I instinctively knew would be the fate of the children relinguished to the "children's house" as we called it.
The Children of God preyed on vulnerable people - young and old - to support their pitiful vision of the world and their place in it. I have not had anything to do with them since I locked myself in a bathroom in Cincinatti - another whole story - but beleive them capable of all the awful things they are being accused of.
