I was told by someone in a very good position to know that Abrahim first came about as a prank. At TSC, Maria and Shiphrah (wife of Abner "Stand in the Gap") were in bed with DB and got him drunk. The next day, they fed him this whole story about a gypsy king who spoke through him.
Berg believed it, and the story just grew. For Maria and Shiphrah, there would have been hell to pay if they admitted they lied.
