During my "waking up" process, I was talking to an ex-SGA who lives near us. He thought we were alreay "out".
He said "when I left the cult..." The "c" word really, really hit me! I had heard of other cults like the Moonies and Jim Jones... but to hear someone, in actual words, declare the Family a cult... that was the real eye-opener!
Suddenly it stared a bigger process of investigation. I started searching the internet to see what exactly were the "cult dynamics', and I sought out lists of cults and their beliefs.
I could see that the Family was surely a cult. Berg would explain away how the system just didn't understand the Family, and so on... but that's just what cult leaders DO!
I wanted out... and QUICK! I felt all yukky and ikky and dirty and I wanted to have a mental and spiritual bath. I wanted to throu out EVERYTHING that had anything to do with the Family.
We took WEEKS to purge out all the literature, and we gave away our sellable Family "tools" to the nearest home.
We just felt so dirty and we wanted to come clean. Now we understand why "system" Christians didn't want to come near us!
