Hi Acheick, and greetings 'my thoughts.'
Thanks for reacting, though I'm long on this journey and have successfully been an International manager in the Auto Industry and have had winning ministries etc., I'm still screwed-up. Which is probably why events such as the recent tradgedies stir up wild emotions within me. Yes, I also had professional counselling for several years; from the VA after I was diagnosed as having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (from Vietnam) complicated by intensive surpression (living in the family.) According to these guys, cult life only delays the effects and does not make them go away. I believe Jesus can certainly heal this but alas, in my case I mostly dumped it all on those around me, especially the kids. As for which expert said time in = time out to recover. My wife says that came probably through Mary Lou @ No Longer Children, we'll search for the name of author.
As for forgivness, I think I'm there, but still screwed up with doctrines and crap I little realize that appears and must be dealt with from time to time....such as my inevitable loyalty to those souls I am responsible for bringing to the family who remain there.
