Well, in these last two years since we've been out of the Family, we've found that there are some really inspired musicians out here. One we like is Steven Curtis Chapman.
We were inspired to watch on his "Steven Chapman Live" DVD the testimony from the son, Steve Saint, of one of the "Five Missionaires and the naked girl". Remember the story everyone... the one according to Berg?
The only "message" that sticks in my head from that story from Berg is that "System" Christians are weak and old-bottlish... and not yeilded enough to accept any radical and sexual messages from God. Supposedly the missionaries (to the Auca tribe) were killed because they didn't accept the daughter of the chief as a present. Because they came from conservative denominations who wouldn't support them anymore if they heard about the "native girl"... they decided to decline the chief's present...hence,they were all killed.
Well, I've read the book, and read many articles about this story, but I never heard about the "daughter of the chief".
Plus, the "after-taste" of that story stays with you... "The Family's missionaries" are better than all the missionaries ever... more "in tune", more radical, more full of faith... yada, yada..
If you ever get a chance to see this DVD, please do... it is so touching beyond anything. I saw that there is also a new documentary/movie just finished called "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" and has most of the real people starring in the movie. It will be a good watch.
It really makes me sick to know who I actually believed all that junk from Berg.
