It is the need of attention and affection.
Have you ever been with one of the oposite sex at a level of intensity that your brain doesn't function? That is because of the psychological need created before hand. When that person gives you attention and affection the empty space takes over all of you. There is no reason, only emotion.
Of course, that is because I am an incurable romantic, but some mental people have reported the same effects too. Being in love, is called. In the case of the family, it was more like finding people who needed attention and affection. We were such people.
