Sure, in history it has been very abusive at times. But not it's adherents in general. So has any church- been abusive- that is mainstream and big. But today it is not a cult. It doesn't control women's reproductive organs because many catholic women use birth control regardless of what the pope thinks. Many clergy have disagreements with the pope. What I am talking about is that I know Catholics who are very down to earth and wonderful people that go to catholic church and are not zombies who are unable to think outside their church's box.
Who am I if I attack a belief with a zeal just because I don't like some of their doctrines as long as they are not criminal and no one is forced to participate in controversial doctrine such as birth control? If I were so zealous as to condemn any mainstream religious group *btw, I am atheist* I would be just another garden variety fanatic.
