Some ideologies make people see themselves as better than others. Christian religion is one of them. Only one form of slavery was abolished. It was a great accomplishment but as long as some Christian theologies keep promoting their supremacy over others, there is slavery and abuse. Slavery still exists in the exploitation of the poor and the weak. Look at the immigrant masses in very dvanced countries like Britain, Germany and the USA. Even worse in the undocumented immigration.
Who are these abusers? Members of the Christian majority.
Why? Maybe because they are Christian or maybe because there are other ideologies polluting what could be good Christianity.
Ask any member of any minority group in a Christian country, including women, if they have ever felt shunned or stepped over by members of the majority ideology - which in most occidental modern countries means Christianity.
