Rocky, of all the posts related to my original post describing the book "Terror and Civilization", your's comes the closest to one of the author's main theses, which is to say that one need look no further than Jesus' own words and teachings. However,where you "keep to the simple side of Christ where it is safe for [you]", the author shows the dark side of Jesus and the negative consequences.
One thing I found interesting in the book was the idea that the new testament god is actually a far more cruel god than the god of the old testament. The ot god punished for acts of commission or omission, but the nt god punishes for thoughts of the mind. The good news of the gospel is really not so good, which is my very simplistic paraphrasing of the author's excellent deconstruction of biblical scripture.
