BTW, you can't say *only an ignorant racist ...would make an inane comment like that* Many people would make statements like that for a variety of reasons.
Also, are you quite certain that the purpose of the book Perry mentioned is to challenge dogmatic beliefs? Have you read the book? Is that your summary of it?
