Dear Bamboozled
I've thought about simillar things recently. The nature of belief.
Throughout the whole gamut of schisms in every world religeon, everyone's convinced they are right. Just in the Christian faith how many different Christian denomination and non-denomination Churches and doctrenes are there in the world ? Somebody has got to be wrong, yet everyone believes they are right. Belief doesn't equal Truth.
As an outsider, if you bring a devout Muslem and a devout Christian together , obviously they will both seem equally convinced and commited to their core that they are right and that the other has got it all wrong.Yet neither would consider for an instant they themselves might be wrong. Amazing !
I think it was Galilao ( sorry for the spelling ) who was tortured and threatened with prison by the Catholic church for the theory that the Earth was orbiting the Sun and that the Earth was not infact the center of the Universe.
Darwin waited for about 40 years after coming up with his Theory of evolution before he published it for fear of the Church.
Personally I think you're right to take everything with a ' pinch of salt ' , don't get into any situation where you get bamboozled. Personally I think that anyone who continues to believe in something in the face of over whelming evidence to the contrary has to be self delusional.
Young Earthers being one example.
Part of the great journey of life, surely , must be in admitting mistakes.
Sadly though I think gulibility is part of the human condition. And it is those who seek to take advantage who are the problem.
