Thanks for pointing out that great article. I had never read it before now and it is really well done.
One thing to note about drinking and addictions, is that drinking/addiction often goes hand in hand with PTSD and less associated with pomp and glory (like berg was) and more associated with self destructive behavior. Many women alcoholics don't fit the standard AA profile and neither do some men. But still, one thing certain is that alcohol is a "rapacious creditor" as are drugs when abused/misused.
I am glad for the constant availability of 12 step support groups worldwide for anyone in need. In most cities in the USA you can call a 24 hr. AA hotline and get hold of someone when needed and larger cities often have a number of 24 hr clubs (locations where a person can go any time of the night or day where at least a person with a listening ear is staffing a coffee pot and generally available..)
